Yesterday, after the sun broke through the morning mist, I noticed a golden hawk eating fresh kill
in the tree outside my window. For a moment, I thought one of my "frenemies" (i.e., the squirrels who control the courtyard) had been snagged for lunch. Upon closer inspection, I
saw of two of them hiding very quietly: frozen until the hawk flew
away.
(Turns out the hawk's prey was a pigeon.) --Tom Eubanks
Spent the stunning afternoon of Sunday, August 25, 2013 riding my new bike (thank
you, Matt!) around Governors Island (or the half not closed for repair) ... an unexpected blend of large Hasidic families, bad food trucks and vintage Volkswagens.
