Yesterday, after the sun broke through the morning mist, I noticed a golden hawk eating fresh kill
in the tree outside my window. For a moment, I thought one of my "frenemies" (i.e., the squirrels who control the courtyard) had been snagged for lunch. Upon closer inspection, I
saw of two of them hiding very quietly: frozen until the hawk flew
away.
